Exploring the TCM mechanism and prevention of gastric polyps based on the principle of "yang transforms into qi, while yin constitutes form"
Gastric polyps refer to protruding lesions on the gastric mucosa caused by various factors. This condition lacks a specific term in traditional Chinese medicine
but can be classified as "
chang xun
" (intestinal polps) and "
ji ju
" (abdominal mass). The principle of "yang transforms into qi
while yin constitutes form" reflects the fundamental aspects of human life processes. Yang qi is responsible for warming and circulating of the fluids
blood and essence
while yin qi governs their transformation into form and the formation of bodily tissues. When these two forces are in a relative balance
a state of homeostasis is achieved
known as "only when yin is calm and yang is sound can essence-spirit be normal" . Imbalances between these forces lead to health issues. Gastric polyps are understood in this context
with the inability of yang to transform qi as the root of the disease
and excessive creation of form by yin as the branch. Specific manifestations of the weakness of yang qi include yang deficiency of the spleen and kidney
resulting in insufficient transformation of qi
qi deficiency of the lung and spleen
affecting the generation of qi
and overall qi failure in the organs
which leads to disorder of the ascending and descending of qi. The guiding philosophy for gastric polyps should thus be warming and supporting kidney yang to transform qi
warming and protecting spleen yang to resolve dampness
warming and astringing liver yang to regulate qi
and dissolving phlegm and blood stasis to eliminate the yin nebula.
