摘要:The "green therapy of tumors" model is a new cancer prevention and treatment system that primarily utilizes "modern minimally invasive technology + body conditioning with traditional Chinese medicine" as its main approach. It emphasizes controlling cancer rather than curing it. In the "green therapy of tumor" model, cancer is regarded as a "living" pathogenic factor, and the concepts of cold and heat fall within the realm of yin and yang. In the early stages of tumor formation, part of the tumor mass is composed of pathogenic factors such as cold, phlegm, and blood stasis. Due to its characteristic of "yin in physique and yang in function, " the patient gradually develops excessive deficiency and cold. Based on the changing characteristics of the relative strength of pathogenic and healthy factors, the "green therapy of tumors" model divides tumor development into the acute, chronic, and concealing phases. It also specifically identifies three treatment methods, which include the "domineering method, " the "kingly method, " and the "emperor method." From the perspective of cold and heat, deep thermal therapy is considered a heat-inducing treatment. According to the principle of "treating cold with heat" , deep thermal therapy can play a role in warming yang and dispelling cold during the chronic and concealing phases. In the chronic phase, deep thermal therapy has the dual effect of strengthening the body’s resistance and eliminating pathogens. Its focus is relieving the general discomfort symptoms in chronic-phase patients. In the concealing stage, the "emperor method " focuses on coordinating yin and yang and improving the physical fitness of cancer patients. Before treatment, a comprehensive evaluation is made to determine whether the patient’s physical fitness and syndrome type are suitable for the treatment. Personalized plans are made based on the patient’s physical conditions and tolerance to heat. The "green therapy of tumors" model will continue to explore the clinical application of deep thermal therapy under the guidance of traditional Chinese medicine attributes and combine it with other treatment methods in practice.

摘要:Liver fibrosis refers to the diffuse over-deposition and abnormal distribution of the extracellular matrix (ECM). Though the term is not seen in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) theories, it can be categorized into "accumulation-gathering" and "hypochondriac pain" based on its main symptoms. Yin deficiency is defined as deficiency of essence, blood and body fluids, blood stasis is a pathological state of poor blood circulation or obstruction. The two can influence each other. Liver fibrosis is a syndrome of deficiency in origin and excess in superficiality. Yin deficiency and blood stasis is the primary pathogenesis. The treatment of "nourishing yin to remove blood stasis" should be adopted clinically which promotes the disappearance of stasis by nourishing yin liquids, eliminating pathogens without harming healthy qi. This therapy is suitable for the middle and late stages of liver fibrosis, which consists of the methods of nourishing blood and emolliating the liver, and nourishing the liver and kidney. In addition, they should be used in combination with other treatments according to the syndrome.
摘要:Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a type of metabolic stress-induced liver injury, excluding factors such as prolonged excessive alcohol consumption. In traditional Chinese medicine, NAFLD is not recognized as a distinct diagnosis. Instead, it is categorized based on common clinical manifestations such as "accumulation syndrome" , "hypochondriac pain" , "abdominal masses in the liver" , and "liver lumps" . Specific clinical etiological factors and pathogenesis include the patterns of liver constraint with spleen deficiency, dampness retention, accumulation of damp and heat, and binding of phlegm and blood stasis. The use of Triangular Herbs involves a combination of three herbal medicines based on their properties and flavors, aimed at enhancing clinical effectiveness through rational compatibility. Clinical approaches guided by the Triangular Herbs include regulating and harmonizing the liver and spleen, draining dampness and removing turbidity, clearing heat, and eliminating phlegm and expeling stasis. Key herbal trios include Chaihu (Radix Bupleuri), Baishao (Radix Paeoniae Alba), and Zhishi (Fructus Aurantii Immaturus) for alleviating liver constraint, Renshen (Radix et Rhizoma Ginseng), Baizhu (Rhizoma Atractylodis Macrocephalae), and Fuling (Poria) for strengthening the spleen and replenishing qi, Fuling, Zhuling (Polyporus), and Zexie (Rhizoma Alismatis) for draining water and eliminating dampness, Xingren (Semen Armeniacae Amarum), Baikouren (Fructus Amomi Rotundus), and Yiyiren (Semen Coicis) for clearing and facilitating the three jiao,Danpi (Cortex Moutan), Zhizi (Fructus Gardeniae), and Huangqin (Radix Scutellariae) for clearing internal heat, Banxia (Rhizoma Pinelliae), Chenpi (Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae), and Fuling for fortifying the spleen and removing phlegm, and Danpi, Taoren (Semen Persicae), and Chishao (Radix Paeoniae Rubra) for activating blood circulation and resolving stasis.
摘要:Chronic aplastic anemia (CAA) is a common and refractory disease of the blood system. This disease belonged to the categories of "Xuexu" , " Xueku" , "Suiku" and "Suilao" in traditional Chinese medicine. The late Professor Zhou Ping’an, laureate of the title Prestigious TCM Doctor of Beijing, was skilled at treating various kinds of difficult diseases from "the ascending and descending of the spleen and stomach" . He believed that "invigorating the spleen and stomach" was not just about tonifying. The key was to conform to the characteristics of the spleen and stomach qi, and restore the normal pattern of ascending by the spleen and descending by the stomach. "Invigorating the spleen and stomach" is also "regulating the ascending and descending" . The selection of herbs should follow the principle of "interdependence between ascending and descending" , focusing on ascending the spleen qi and descending the stomach qi. CAA is always based on the deficiency of the spleen, lung and kidney, which is the root, and the branch is the binding of stasis, phlegm and toxin. It belongs to the "deficiency in essence and excess in superficiality, characterized by a mixture of excess and deficiency" . In essence, it is induced by the abnormal movement of the spleen and stomach. Treatment ideas included: invigorating the spleen and appetizing the stomach, restoring the rise and fall of qi; once the movement of qi becomes normal, it is possible to supplement the deficiency without causing obstructions; finally, elimination of pathogens should be moderate even after the free activity of qi is restored. This study explains the diagnosis and treatment of CAA with Zhou Ping’an’s idea of "invigorating the spleen and stomach, regulating the ascending and descending" with case records.

摘要:Hyperhidrosis is a syndrome in which the body sweats beyond the needs of thermoregulation, resulting in excessive systemic or local sweating. It belongs to "sweating syndrome" in traditional Chinese medicine. After cancer surgery, patients are just divorced from pathogens, and their healthy qi is lacking. At this time, their yin and yang are both weak and lose their balance. People who suffer from hyperhidrosis can be described as "yang floating and yin weakness" . Floating yang results from its weakness and yin deficiency leads to its weakness, which also belong to disharmony of ying and wei qi. When yang and yin are both weak, inner yin can not hold yang, and thus outlying yang shall drift away. Besides, weak patients would become awfully vulnerable to exogenous diseases. Their exterior yang would struggle to fight the pathogens only to get sicker, thus causing hyperhidrosis. Danggui Liuhuang Decoction (Chinese Angelica Six Yellow Decoction) can fix the pattern of yin deficiency with effulgent fire and pattern of qi deficiency due to sweat. It also agrees with patten of yin and yang deficiency. However, there is some difference between them. Patients with pattern of yin deficiency with effulgent fire could be weak because of abnormal sweating, while patients after cancer surgeries are characterized by both yin and yang deficiency. Therefore, Danggui Liuhuang Decoction can not only tonify and strengthen yin, but also warm and reinforce exterior yang, and is used in the treatment of postoperative hyperhidrosis in cancer patients with "yang floating and yin weakness" .

摘要:Recurrent urinary calculi are a chronic metabolic disease with disturbance of the zangfu organs as the core, dampness-heat retention as the main manifestation, and the pathological feature is stagnation of qi and blood. Its main pathogenesis is ministerial fire sunken into the bladder, disorder of qi transformation at the three jiao and qi stagnation and blood stasis. Clinical treatment should follow a staged approach: In the acute phase, the focus is to address damp-heat pouring downward and counterflow of qi and blood. The treatment here is aimed to drain dampness, regulate qi, and remove blood stasis. The pathogenesis of the postoperative period or the late stage of stone removal is dampness retention complicated by stasis turbidity, which should be treated by promoting urination in a moderate manner and regulating qi and blood. The pathogenesis of the later stage of stone removal is characterized by excess dampness transforming into heat, combined with spleen and kidney deficiency. The treatment is mainly to regulate the zangfu organs, harmonize yin and yang, and reduce dampness and turbidity. In addition, diet and lifestyle adjustment is an important aspect of the prevention and treatment of urolithiasis.

摘要:Gastric polyps refer to protruding lesions on the gastric mucosa caused by various factors. This condition lacks a specific term in traditional Chinese medicine, but can be classified as "chang xun" (intestinal polps) and "ji ju" (abdominal mass). The principle of "yang transforms into qi, while yin constitutes form" reflects the fundamental aspects of human life processes. Yang qi is responsible for warming and circulating of the fluids, blood and essence, while yin qi governs their transformation into form and the formation of bodily tissues. When these two forces are in a relative balance, a state of homeostasis is achieved, known as "only when yin is calm and yang is sound can essence-spirit be normal" . Imbalances between these forces lead to health issues. Gastric polyps are understood in this context, with the inability of yang to transform qi as the root of the disease, and excessive creation of form by yin as the branch. Specific manifestations of the weakness of yang qi include yang deficiency of the spleen and kidney, resulting in insufficient transformation of qi, qi deficiency of the lung and spleen, affecting the generation of qi, and overall qi failure in the organs, which leads to disorder of the ascending and descending of qi. The guiding philosophy for gastric polyps should thus be warming and supporting kidney yang to transform qi, warming and protecting spleen yang to resolve dampness, warming and astringing liver yang to regulate qi, and dissolving phlegm and blood stasis to eliminate the yin nebula.

摘要:Professor Hu Kaiwen, who has been engaged in clinical work on the prevention and treatment of tumors with traditional Chinese medicine for nearly 40 years, believes that lung cancer in the elderly is mainly based on deficiency of the spleen and kidney and imbalance of yin and yang as the root, and qi, dampness, phlegm, blood stasis, and cancer toxins as the branch. Professor Hu is good at using TCM herbal pairs during the treatment. The commonly used pairs include, for reinforcing healthy qi, Huangqi (Radix Astragali) - Rougui (Cortex Cinnamomi), Ganjiang (Rhizoma Zingiberis) - Fuzi (Radix Aconiti Lateralis Praeparata), Shudihuang (Radix Rehmanniae Praeparata) - Danggui (Radix Angelicae Sinensis), Maidong (Radix Ophiopogonis) - Wuweizi (Fructus Schisandrae Chinensis), and for dispelling pathogen, Fuling (Poria) - Yiyiren (Semen Coicis), Zhuru (Caulis Bambusae in Taenia) - Zhishi (Fructus Aurantii Immaturus), Qingbanxia (Rhizoma Pinelliae Concisum) - Chenpi (Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae), Fengfang (Nidus Vespae) - Wugong (Scolopendra). A proven case is provided here to explain his experience in the application of herb pairs for the treatment of lung cancer in the elderly based on the method of reinforcing healthy qi and dispelling pathogen.

摘要:Prediabetes is a hyperglycemic metabolic syndrome, a transition state from glucose instability to diabetes, and can be classified as a spleen-heat syndrome in traditional Chinese medicine. Professor Feng Xingzhong believes that spleen deficiency, liver constraint and damp-heat accumulation are the core pathogenesis of the disease, among which spleen deficiency is the origin, liver constraint is the cause, and damp-heat is the start of the disease. The major treatment methods include invigorating the spleen and soothing the liver, clearing away heat and dampness. The flexible use of self-designed Tangdi Formula have yielded desirable results, which can provide reference for the treatment of prediabetes with TCM.

摘要:Percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) is an important treatment for patients with coronary atherosclerotic heart disease. Traditional Chinese medicine categorizes the recurrence of angina pectoris after PCI for coronary heart disease (CHD) into "xiong bi xin tong (chest impediment and pain)" and "cu xin tong (sudden heart pain)" . Prof. Huang Lijuan believes that angina after PCI always belongs to the syndrome of deficiency as the root and excess as the branch. The root is mainly characterized by qi, yin, and yang deficiency, while the excess involves primarily qi stagnation, blood stasis, phlegm turbidity, and cold coagulation. This disease causes damage to all five organs, and the heart is mostly affected, with the liver, spleen, and kidneys as the key. The initial stage is for those who experience recurrent angina pectoris 2 years after PCI. This stage is mainly characterized by qi yin deficiency and heart blood stasis obstruction, with the treatment of supplementing qi and nourishing yin, invigorating blood and resolving stasis, and the best suitable formula is Shengmai Powder (Pulse-Engendering Powder) combined with Xuefu Zhuyu Decoction (Blood Stasis Expelling Decoction). Patients with recurrent angina pectoris within 2-5 years after PCI surgery are in the middle stage. This stage is characterized by severe qi deficiency, blood stasis, phlegm turbidity, and liver stagnation and spleen deficiency. The treatment is to invigorate blood, eliminate phlegm and stasis, regulate the liver and spleen, and replenish qi. The basic formula is Gualou Xiebai Banxia Decoction (Trichosanthes, Chinese Chive and White Wine Decoction) combined with Xiaoyao Powder (Free Wanderer Powder), with possible adjustments to the formula as needed. Those who still experience recurrent angina after PCI with a course of more than 5 years are in the advanced stage. This stage is mainly characterized by qi and blood stasis, deficiency of heart and kidney yang, and cold coagulation. The treatment focuses on warming the kidney and assisting yang, as well as supplementing qi, invigorating blood, resolving phlegm, and unblocking collaterals. In addition, we attach great importance to the harmony of mind and body, with a particular emphasis on soothing the liver and regulating the spleen, emphasizing the correlation between qi and blood, and the simultaneous treatment of qi and blood. This study comes with proven case records to further explain Prof. Huang’s clincial ideas.
摘要:Tumor immune microenvironment (TIME) plays an important role in the development and treatment outcome of tumors. TIME is always in the dynamic confrontation process of anti-tumor and tumor promotion, has consistency with the theory of "healthy and evil qi" in traditional Chinese medicine. According to the role of various immune cells, cytokines, chemokines in tumor development, they can be classified to the "healthy qi" and "evil qi" . The factors that can enhance the anti-tumor immune function and inhibit the tumor proliferation, growth and metastasis belong to the category of healthy qi, while those that destroy the immune homeostasis, inhibit the anti-tumor immune function or enhance the pro-tumor function are evil qi. The occurrence of tumor is caused by the imbalance of healthy and evil qi and the dominant position of the evil side. The formation of tumor immunosuppressive microenvironment can be regarded as the micro embodiment of the combat between the two sides, in which the evil defeats the healthy. Resolving evil by healthy qi plays an important role in the formation of the tumor immunosuppressive microenvironment. Reinforcing healthy qi is a method to supplement the healthy factors, enhances the activity and infiltration state of immune cells, and improves the body’s anti-tumor immunity. Traditional Chinese medicine can inhibit the polarization of negative immune cells and relieve the state of immune suppression, so as to achieve this purpose. Based on the relationship between the healthy and evil qi in TIME, the advantages of TCM rectifying and correcting can be fully played.

摘要:Malignant tumor is an important cause of human death, and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) uses the theory of "latent oncotoxin" to describe its etiology and pathogenesis. Based on the deficiency of vital-qi, pathogenic oncotoxin, a kind of latent and evil substance, accumulates over time. Oncotoxin is not only a pathological product, but also a pathogenic factor. According to its characteristics, it can be divided into yang toxin and yin toxin. Based on the theory of "latent oncotoxin" , it is considered that latent pathogens from the interior and exterior of the body will become toxin for a long time; and initially it is dormant and hidden as it is generated, which is harmful to the vital qi; remanent toxins may lurk and lead to relapses. The dynamic struggle between the latent and evil substance and vital qi is manifested in the following aspects: in the early stage of cancer, vital qi is still able to suppress evil; as the disease progresses, the power balance is broken and evil starts to gain the upper hand; in the terminal stage, evil prevails eventually. The therapeutic principles and methods include: First, eliminating pathogenic factors to calm vital qi. To do so, it is needed to clear away heat and toxic materials due to yang toxicity and eliminate phlegm and remove blood stasis due to yin toxicity. Second, nourishing vital qi so that the accumulated toxins are cleared naturally. This includes fortifying the spleen and stomach, which can guarantee smooth transportation and transformation, benefit qi and blood, and nourish yin and strengthen yang.
摘要:Infertility is a common reproductive disorder. The theory system of yin-yang syndrome differentiation in TCM is the overarching principle of syndrome differentiation of external contraction, internal damage and miscellaneous diseases. There are ascending and descending movement in yin and yang, and only when the ascending and descending of qi are well coordinated, so that yin is calm and yang is sound, can it give rise to the nurturing and cultivation of life. Therefore, the theory of yin and yang plays a guiding role in the diagnosis and treatment of infertility. This includes: the essence of ascending of yang and descending of yin lies primarily in the spleen and stomach, while the heart and kidney are key to the descending of yang and ascending of yin. The abnormal fluctuation of yin and yang in infertility is manifested as: sinking of clear yang sink and rising of yin fire, exuberance of heart fire and exhaustion of kidney water. The main ideas of differentiation and treatment of infertility can thus be: fortifying the spleen and warming yang, harmonizing the stomach and nourishing yin, promoting the harmony of water and fire and restoring interaction between the heart and kidney.

摘要:Siwu Decoction (Four Substances Decoction) is first seen in Xian Shou Li Shang Xu Duan Mi Fang (Secret Formulas for Healing Wounds and Fractures Bestowed by a God) of the Tang Dynasty. Tai Ping Hui Min He Ji Ju Fang (Beneficial Formulas from the Taiping Imperial Pharmacy) placed Siwu Decoction in the category of gynecological diseases, which is known as the "No. 1 formula of gynecology" . Fu Qing Zhu Nv Ke (Fu Qingzhu’s Gynecology) was written by Fu Qingzhu in the late Ming Dynasty and the early Qing Dynasty. According to the physiological characteristics of women in different periods, Fu made modifications to the decoction flexibly for the treatment of their gynecological diseases, which exhibited desirable clinical efficacy. It was found that, among the 151 prescriptions contained in book, seven used the original recipe of Siwu Decoction, and 29 adopted three out the four herbs in the classic formula. Cheng Menxue Yi’an (Cheng Menxue’s Case Records) contains his clinical records from 1932 to 1971, including 17 cases of gynecological diseases, which contains many valuable insights in the treatment of gynecological diseases. The main characteristics are: a preference for compound formulas and the combined use of multiple treatment methods with necessary adjustments, an emphasis on chong mai and ren mai to fill and supplement the extraordinary vessels, a mixed use of both cold and hot herbs as paradoxical assistants, a special focus on identifying the factors of greater urgency and treating both the branch and root, and a propensity to choose herbs bland in flavor and small dosages of individual ingredients. By summarizing Cheng’s experience and characteristics in treating gynecological diseases, we can provide ideas for clinical diagnosis and treatment.
摘要:Granulomatous mastitis, also known as granulomatous lobular mastitis, is a chronic inflammatory disease with non-caseous necrosis centered on the lobule of the breast and granuloma as the main pathological feature. Granulomatous mastitis is complex and easy to recur, it has a great impact on women’s physical and mental health and currently there is no proven cure for it. On the basis of internal treatment and physical conditioning, the famous experts of the Yenching School of TCM Surgeries made dedicated efforts into the external treatment, effectively shortening the disease duration and promoting healing. The staged treatment can be described as follows: In the acute stage, ointment is the main medicine, and the commonly used ones are Furong Ointment, Fufang Huadu Ointment and Tiegusan Ointment. The treatment in the abscess stage depends primarily on the patient’s conditions. If the body is strong, the TCM encircling therapy is employed; if the abscess is found in a deeper location, the method of puncturing for draining pus or cotton pad drainage are mostly used. In the lump stage, the focus is placed on dissipating masses and dissolving masses, which is achieved through moist heat compress with Xiaohua Ointment. During the rupture period, based on how badly the wounds suppurate and the degree of granulation edema, different yarns shall be used as the dressing, such as Zhuhong Ointment, (red yarn strips), Ganru yarn strips, charred hair yolk oil, licorice oil, etc. During the convalescent period, heibu ointment is applied externally and, if necessary, inversion of retracted nipples may also be needed.

摘要:Carcinoma of bile duct is a kind of malignant tumor derived from epithelial cells of the bile duct. As a common malignancy of the hepatobiliary system, its etiology remains unclear. This disease often presents with insidious onset, and early-stage cases typically lack obvious symptoms. Diagnosis is often made in the advanced stages, making surgical resection difficult and rendering chemotherapy and radiation therapy less effective due to the tumor’s resistance. This article presents a case that combines internal and external treatment guided by the principles of soothing the liver and eliminating dampness and heat, resulting in prolonged patient survival and improving quality of life. This approach provides insights for the use of TCM in the treatment of this disease.

摘要:Patent foramen ovale (PFO) is a congenital cardiac anomaly caused by incomplete fusion of the atrial septum after birth. PFO is closely associated with the development of migraine with aura (MA). The pathogenesis of PFO-induced migraine is still unclear, and the treatment is based on PFO closure and pain relief treatment during attacks. One case of PFO-associated MA was treated with TCM herbal medicine by resolving constraint and harmonizing the spleen and stomach, which achieved satisfactory efficacy, and the headache and aura did not reoccur in 1 year of follow-up, suggesting that organic changes are not the single pathogenetic factor of the disease, and that medications to improve the patient’s function or susceptibility can be a treatment option for the disease. This could provide some ideas for TCM treatment of the disease.
