Objective To find out the law of differentiation and treatment of generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) with Chinese medicine in clinic. Method The clinical data of 78 cases of GAD and 78 cases without anxiety syndrome were given a synchronized and generalized survey. The data then were analysed by linear and nonlinear statistics. Result Some symptoms of Chinese medicine were correlated significantly to GAD
such as impetuosity and susceptibility to rage
preference for sighing
obstructive sensation in the throat
bitter taste in the mouth
dizziness and palpitation (P<0.05). The pathological factors of Chinese medicine included qi stagnation
predominance of fire and blood deficiency (P<0.01). The pathological sites of Chinese medicine were liver and heart (P<0.01). The syndrome type of Chinese medicine was the syndrome of fire due to qi stagnation (P<0.01). Conclusion The treatment of GAD with Chinese medicine in clinic mainly included the therapies of soothing liver
purging fire
nourishing blood and tranquilizing mind.
